Throughout the month of December, illuminations, Christmas markets and festive events will invite the Angevins and visitors to immerse themselves in the magical universe of Noël while wandering in the streets of the city center.
Surprises and new things to discover
Among the surprises to discover or rediscover:
- Hansel and Gretel's housea childish setting that immerses young and old in the world of the famous tale
- Two new features: a giant disco ball on Place du Ralliement whose inhabitants, surprising creatures, will come to amaze the curious. And a model of the Hôtel du Roi de Polo in the Jardin du Mail.
More than 160 chalets at the Christmas market
The Christmas market opened on November 28 . He welcomes nearly 160 chalets spread between Place du Ralliement, Rue Lenepveu, Place du Pilori, the Santa Claus village in the Mail gardenand, new for this edition, Place Molière. Many local artisans will be present.
Those with a sweet tooth will be able to taste local specialties and traditional Christmas products that will delight young and old alike.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy different attractions like the traditional ferris wheel which will offer a breathtaking view of the city lights, the “magic tree” ride, in the Mail garden, or even the great Carrousel 1900,installed at Place du Ralliement, and the flying chair ride, at Place Molière. These activities will immerse all visitors in the spirit of the end-of-year celebrations.
Like last year, families are invited to open the doors Santa’s elves workshops . Accompanied by activity leaders, children and parents will be able to participate in creative activities or take advantage of the games library made available to them.
Santa Claus is coming on November 30
The arrival of Santa Claus on November 30 at the Jardin du Mailwill mark the official launch of the Christmas festivities in Angers.
As tradition dictates, Christophe Béchu, mayor of Angerswill solemnly hand over the keys to the City to Santa Claus during a festive ceremony on Saturday, November 30 from 3 p.m.
Accompanied for the first time by Mrs. Claus, Father Christmas will travel up the promenade of the Mail garden in his sleigh while the Ocarina choir, a children's and adolescent choir, will sing traditional Christmas carols under the kiosk. The mayor will then hand over the keys to the City to Santa Claus, a symbolic gesture to ensure the proper distribution of gifts on the night of December 24.
Santa Claus will then stay in the Mail garden to meet the children, collect their letters and immortalize this moment in photos. The next day, the children will be able to find him at his home, Place Sainte-Croix. In the following days, he will continue his tour to meet the Angevins, stopping in the different districts of the city.
Shops open on Sundays and free parking
– Exceptional opening of city center shops on Sundays December 1, 15 and 22;
– Free relay car parks (Ardenne, Hauts-de-Saint-Aubin, Élisabeth-Boselli, Roseraie, Belle-Beille and Montaigne) to take public transport towards the city center.

The Christmas market and activities:
- Christmas marketplace du Pilori, Rue Lenepveu and place du Ralliement, from November 28 to December 29, 2024, every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Late nights every weekend until Christmas: Friday until 9 p.m. and Saturday until 10 p.m. Special hours on December 24 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and December 25 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.;
- Santa Claus Villagefrom November 28 to January 5, same hours as the Christmas market;
- CarouselPlace du Ralliement, from November 28 to January 5;
- Ferris wheelMagic Fir Tree in the Mail garden and La Pomme ride, Place Lorraine, from December 2 to January 5;
- Santa’s elves workshopsfrom November 30 to December 29, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during school periods, every day during school holidays. The slots can be found on the Soleils d’Hiver website;
- Place Molière, Christmas marketthe “flying chairs” ride and a 10-meter-high tree, from December 4, 2024 to January 5.
