Here we go for the 10th edition – Today Morocco

The tenth edition of Sidaction Maroc will take place from December 1 to 31. Young people are at the heart of this new national campaign as nearly 45% of new HIV infections concern those aged 15 to 34.

The tenth edition of Sidaction Maroc will take place from December 1 to 31, the Association to Fight AIDS (ALCS) announced Thursday in Casablanca. This national campaign, which coincides with World AIDS Day (December 1), will be held under the theme “AIDS is still here… Let’s not look away”. “This year, we have decided to focus our campaign on young people, because according to available data, almost half of new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections occur among this age group,” announced the president of the ALCS, Mehdi Karkouri, in a statement to MAP. Mr. Karkouri said that according to recent data from the Ministry of Health, nearly 45% of new infections concern young people aged 15 to 34, noting that this alarming situation is largely due to a lack of awareness, in addition to access to prevention and screening services. The ALCS continues its commitment to supporting people living with HIV, he stressed. This campaign is not limited to awareness-raising, but also includes fundraising intended to support the association’s activities: information, prevention, screening and care programs. For his part, the director of programs at the ALCS indicated that prevention workshops will be organized in the association’s structures as well as in public and private schools throughout the country. The culmination of the campaign will be the Sidaction Maroc evening, broadcast live on television on December 13. Remember that the ALCS has been working for more than 35 years in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Morocco. This has 19 sections and nearly 600 activists. The ALCS is a founding member of the PLUS Coalition, an international union of community associations fighting AIDS and viral hepatitis.
