Bad week for French clubs on the European scene. With in particular the defeat of Paris Saint-Germain on the pitch of Bayern Munich (1-0) and only two victories in six matches – the success of Losc 2 goals to 1 on the pitch of Bologna in the Champions League and that of Olympique Lyonnais 4 goals to 1 against Qarabag in the Europa League – France is having its worst week at this level of competition since the start of the season.
Result: France's progress on the UEFA index slows down, and allows the Netherlands to slightly reduce the gap. The French clubs indeed reported +0.571 (63,807) this week, when the Dutch, thanks to the success of PSV Eindhoven against Shakhtar Donetsk (3-2) and the draw of Feyenoord against Manchester City (3-3) obtained + 0.667 (59.233).
Portugal, seventh, also remains to be watched. Thanks to an increase of 1,275 points this week (56,491), he continues to get closer to the top of the ranking. The latter remains easily dominated by England, Italy and Spain. Germany is in fourth position and is more than ten points ahead of France.
The UEFA index is closely scrutinized because it is decisive for the distribution of teams in the Champions League. If France maintains its 5th place, it will obtain three direct places in the championship phase and one in the third preliminary round for the most prestigious European competition. 6th place only gives access to two direct quotas and one optional.
