Salaried employment increased by 0.2% in total (+48,700 jobs) over the same period, with public employment increasing by 0.4% (+21,700 jobs), said the National Institute of statistics, this Friday. Private salaried employment in France showed virtual stability in the third quarter, with 27,000 more positions than in the second (+ 0.1%).
Over one year, private salaried employment is 0.2% above its summer 2023 level (+47,400 jobs) and 5.9% above its end-2019 level (+1 .2 million jobs), before the health crisis, according to these figures. These do not yet take into account the wave of social plans and business failures that France is experiencing this fall.
38,900 fewer temporary jobs
Temporary employment, which is frequently a harbinger of the coming trend, decreased by 0.9% in the third quarter compared to the second quarter and by 5.1% compared to summer 2023, or 38,900 fewer jobs, details INSEE.
Industrial salaried employment remained stable over the quarter, increasing by 0.7% year-on-year and by 2.7% compared to before the health crisis.
In construction, salaried employment excluding temporary work “decreases for the seventh consecutive quarter”, with a drop of 1.5% over one year, while remaining above its level at the end of 2019 (+ 5.3%) .
In the commercial tertiary sector (services) excluding temporary work, salaried employment increased very slightly by 0.1%, accommodation and catering showing an increase of 0.7% but household services a decrease of 0.3%.
Salaried employment of seniors is increasing significantly with an increase of 3.5% (+129,100 positions) over one year for those aged 55 and over, while that of those under 30 is almost stable and that of those aged 30-54 years fell by 0.7%.
Finally, permanent contracts increase by 0.4% over one year, while fixed-term contracts decrease by the same amount over the same period. Fixed-term contracts are in sharp decline (-6.4%) compared to before the health crisis, as is temporary work (-6%).
