Notre-Dame de : final site visit by Emmanuel Macron this Friday

Notre-Dame de will reveal its newfound shine this Friday, five years old after the devastating fire of April 2019with the final site visit by Emmanuel Macron, eight days before its reopening with great fanfare. The Head of State's stroll will be broadcast live in the morning on several French and international channels. “Even more beautiful than before, in the rediscovered radiance of the blondness of the stones and the color of the chapels“, writes the French president in a document distributed to the media.

The work notably made it possible to clean the dirt accumulated over the decades. So far, only unauthenticated images have circulated on X. This Friday, the spectacle should offer a striking contrast with the charred building discovered on the evening of the fire. The flames had notably ravaged the roof and frame of the cathedral.a masterpiece of Gothic art from the 12th century, which is among the most visited monuments in Europe. The spire of Viollet-le-Duc, which collapsed from a height of 93 meters, was reconstructed identically.

Tribute to the 2,000 professionals who contributed to the work

Emmanuel Macron's visit was designed to show the main achievements of this titanic project. All 2,000 people who contributed to the work have been invited, of whom at least 1,300 should be present. Patrons will also be in the spotlight. The 700 million euros of the project were financed exclusively by donations.

The president will deliver a speech in the cathedral, to exalt “French know-how” and a “collective success”. Some were initially skeptical when Emmanuel Macron announced that the project would be completed five years after the fire.

Visitors will have to wait another week to access the cathedral: on December 7, the Head of State will speak again, this time on the square, for the official reopening, before the inaugural mass celebrated December 8, day of reopening to the publicmore without Pope Francis.
