Facing the cathedral, the Notre-Dame market of Paris settles again in Square René-Viviani (5th), from Friday November 29, 2024. A few days before the long-awaited reopening of the cathedral, five years after the fire, this is a somewhat special edition, and extended by one weekwhich awaits visitors and tourists.
“The reopening of Notre-Dame is the theme of the year! »
“We are delighted to find the point of view on Notre-Dame that we had lost. It’s an exceptional setting, a wonderful view,” market founder Nina Petithalgatte enthuses over the phone, while checking a detail on the chalets’ electrical installations.
After the terrible fire that struck Notre-Dame on April 15, 2019, the market endured five gloomy years in the shadow of the work. “We noted a average drop of 30% attendance,” notes the volunteer from the L’Art et la Seine association which manages the market. Appreciated by tourists (they represent 70% of the clientele), the market should benefit in particular from the return of American visitors to Paris. “They love the 5th arrondissement, and often stay in hotels in the area,” observes Nina Petithalgatte.
Like every year, the market will offer artisanal products that are 95% French. “Many have the label “Made in Paris”, or in Île-de-France. They are small artisans. ” There reopening of Notre-Dame particularly inspired the creators, notes the volunteer. “For example, I have a jeweler who offers jewelry in the shape of gargoyles. It is the theme of the year! »
On the stalls, customers will find, among other things, ceramics, wooden objects, stained glass, Christmas baubles, candles, bags and pouches, soaps, illustrations, as well as some regional gastronomy stands.
