The various stakeholders from the Pays d'Olmes attached to the success of the France Montségur Grand Site Project gathered in large numbers on Tuesday at the Lavelanet casino. They clearly felt that the jackpot was within reach, because the recommendations of the higher commission for sites, perspectives and landscapes were followed by achievements. These were presented in detail and in images by Marine Le Breton, the project manager. Submission of application to the Ministry of Ecological Transition next March for a response at the end of 2025.
The president of the community of communes, Marc Sanchez, welcomed the presence at this closing evening of the season of Anaïs Monrozier, project manager of the Mission Patrimoine Mondial association, for the candidacy of the serial property “Cité de Carcassonne and its sentinel mountain castles”. “If Montségur, by 2026, were labeled UNESCO, the Pays d'Olmes would be at the forefront in terms of tourism with its two complementary labels” hopes the president of the CCPO. “And, with the renewal at the same time of the Pays d’art et d’histoire label, the entire territory of the Cathar Pyrenees would benefit.”
One of the ten so-called high-priority actions was the creation of an educational center. Géraldine Tustes, in charge of the educational service of the Pays d'art et d'histoire, developed actions aimed at young people and families to raise awareness of issues linked to landscape heritage. Finally, before the screening of a thirty-minute video film produced by One Shot Video, illustrating the diversity of approaches which allowed the discovery of the values of the Grand site, Trifine Cuvillier provided the audience with some figures. “Big season,” she commented, “with a 38% increase in the number of events carried out. 2,078 people took part in the 163 events spread across 19 municipalities. I would like to thank the 60 speakers, a large proportion of whom are ambassadors of the Great Site.”
