In the night of November 27 to 28, 2024and merchant ship off Cape La Hague (Channel) requested medical assistance from the Jobourg Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center for a member of its crew victim of cardio-respiratory arrest.
The Cross then established a conference call between the maritime medical consultation center in Toulouse, the maritime medical coordination Samu in Le Havre and the ship.
The regulatory doctor recommended a medical evacuation par helicopter.
Cardiac massage
Cross Jobourg chose to use the H160 helicopter from the French Navy, based in Maupertus, reinforced by a medical team from mobile emergency and maritime resuscitation service from the Cotentin public hospital center in Cherbourg in order to rescue the sailor concerned.
Once in the area, the medical team was winched aboard the ship.
Unfortunately, despite the cardiac massage provided by the crew and the intervention of the emergency services, the victim could not be resuscitated. The sailor was declared deceased by the medical team. Neither the age nor the nationality of the deceased sailor have been communicated.
