« In France, wild boar harvests have continued to increase for 30 years,” assures the Young Farmers (JA) of Ille-et-Vilaine. “For the 2023-2024 season, the increase in levies is around 10% on the territory, with in certain sectors, vouchers of up to +70%. ” THE Young farmers from Ille-et-Vilaine alarm on the proliferation wild boars on the territory. They are demanding strong measures.
Ille-et-Vilaine: a “multiplication of damage noted”
While the number of wild boars taken “is the only indicator in place to estimate the population of suidae” according to JA 35, “it is questionable and only reflects a thin reality”, they believe.
« This figure, although increasing, does not, however, reflect mastery of the species in the territory. »
Indeed, “field findings reveal a completely different reality. » according to the agricultural union.
Multiplication of damage observed, enlargement of the hordes of wild boars… Signs which do not deceive and which testify to an exponential increase in the population faced with which farmers find themselves deprived and can only note the losses in their fields.
Regulatory hunting, a public utility
For many years, “the Young Farmers of Ille-et-Vilaine and the Departmental Federation of Farmers' Unions of Ille-et-Vilaine (FDSEA) alert the administrations of this situation, the impact of which is real at the department level.
Today, these Bretillian unions can only observe “ a delay in taking into consideration of the latter” and denounce “the promotion of recreational huntingwho benefits from the increase in the number of individuals on the territory, at the expense of regulation flush whose usefulness is of a general nature (agricultural production, road safety, etc.). »
Also, they question “the system of bracelets whose cost (€40 per animal) constitutes a brake on wild boar hunting”.
“We have to regulate very quickly and very strongly”
If “certainly means have been put in place to temper the anger of farmers (€10 bracelet for individuals weighing less than 25kg, authorization of shooting from a stalk, extension of the hunting period), this is no longer enough to contain the suidae population on Bretillian territory. »
The Young Farmers of Ille-et-Vilaine and the FDSEA 35 are asking that wild boars be “ categorized as harmful » in order to “allow their collection all year round, without restriction or cost linked to affixing a bracelet. »
Furthermore, the Bretillian unions are demanding the maintenance of compensation for farmers who are victims of damage.
These farmers whose crops are regularly affected and who commit significant financial resources to rehabilitate their plots and infrastructure.
Finally, the Young Farmers and FDSEA 35 demand “more transparency” regarding “ the destination of the funds raised among the members of the federation. »
