The figure clearly illustrates what everyone may have felt: at the end of November 2024, more rain has already fallen in France than during the entire year of 2023. Météo France indicated this Thursday, November 28 that the cumulative precipitation which has fallen on France since the 1is January had exceeded 1,000 mm, almost 30 mm more than last year's total (972 mm). This total is also greater than the average annual cumulative figure, calculated using the years 1991-2020 as a reference.
Towards a record year 2024?
In view of these figures, it is possible to affirm that “2024 will be among the rainiest years France has ever known”explains the forecasting institute. The spring was particularly rainy, as were the months of September and October which, in addition to having seen numerous Mediterranean episodes, also saw the arrival of ex-hurricanes Kirk and Leslie on France.
However, at present, it is difficult to say more: “the total for the year will greatly depend on the rain that will fall in December”continues Météo France. But 2024 is more than ever one of the candidates for the title of the rainiest year since records began.
