The mixture of alcohol and cocaine will have got the better of his calm. A 39-year-old Moldovan national was on trial this Wednesday, November 27, 2024 by the Criminal Court of Versailles (Yvelines) for having struck with a Japanese sword a man with whom he had spent the evening in Épône (Yvelines). Despite a stable situation and a clean record, Pavel was sentenced to one year in prison, with a committal warrant.

Whiskey-raclette evening

Described by the victim as a nice person, the defendant came out of his wits on the night of November 18 to 19, 2024, after an evening whisky-raclette with a few friends during which he also used cocaine.

Before the judges, he explained that he had been attacked by one of the people present at the meal, the one to whom he will smash the knuckles.

“He insulted me until the end of the evening. »

In the middle of the night, Pavel goes to buy a gram of cocaine in the district of Val Fourréin Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines). Back in Épône, with the initial aim of sharing the drugs with his dining companions, he returned to the accommodation accompanied by several friends picked up along the way.

The host of the evening is sound asleep. The future victim opens the door and discovers Pavel, a dagger in one hand, a katana in the other. “It was not a threat, it was to impress,” maintains the person concerned from the box.

“I’m going to kill you”

Pavel still pushes the man who opened the door for him to the ground, before striking him with a saber while threatening him with death. The victim, on the ground, protects himself as best he can with his right hand against a blade supposed not to be sharp. The attacker, unleashed, is stopped in his tracks by his friends.

On arrival, the victim suffered from fractures and open wounds on the right hand. Twenty-one days of ITT were issued to him. In an attempt to justify his actions, which he admits, the defendant evokes irrepressible anger.

A personality contradictory to the facts

“I don’t have too many friends. I am more work, family and children,” describes Pavel, construction workermarried and father of three daughters. Calm throughout the hearing, he describes himself as “a very shy person”. “You discover an aspect of your personality,” retorts the president.

“He is not known for acts of violence. There was this unique slip-up in this evening, but at no time did he try to stab him,” stressed the defense lawyerM^e Philippe Petillault.

Convicted, Pavel will serve his sentence on semi-liberty. He will be able to work and see his family during the day, but will sleep in prison at night.
