Senegal: first session of the 15th legislature on December 2 | APAnews

With 130 seats out of 165, Pastef, led by Ousmane Sonko, established itself as the main parliamentary force, in an election praised for its transparency by the Constitutional Council.

The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye e Faye, signed a decree setting Monday, December 2, 2024 as the opening date of the first ordinary session of the new legislature, according to a press release from the Presidency.

This announcement comes after the Constitutional Council proclaimed, on Wednesday, the final results of the early legislative elections held on November 17, 2024.

The Constitutional Council confirmed the large victory of the Pastef party, which won 130 seats out of the 165 in Parliament.

This victory consolidates the position of the political party led by the current Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, as the main force within the National Assembly. The coalition Help Senegalled by former president Macky Sall, won 16 seats. For his part, Jam And Njerignled by former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, obtains seven deputies. The coalition of the mayor of Dakar, Barthélémy Dias, will have to make do with three elected officials.

According to the Constitutional Council praised the serenity and transparency of the electoral process, thus strengthening Senegal’s democratic reputation in Africa.
