Wednesday November 27, on the occasion of International Children's Rights Day, the Maison des Jeunes in Issoire offered workshops. They also address essential rights, such as that of a family, education, and difference. Throughout the games and discussions, the children gradually become aware of their rights and what they can be, do or have.
Justine Brassen, host, underlines the importance of this awareness: “Fortunately there are days like this, but it’s not enough. At their age, it should be more frequent for them to become fully aware of their rights and how lucky they are. »
One of them aimed to give young people the experience of a person with reduced mobility, to better understand the difficulties encountered on a daily basis in a wheelchair.
Franck Evrard, volunteer with the Association of the Sick and Handicapped (AMH), explains: “Addressing these questions in a fun way allows you to not have apprehension when faced with disability. When we meet a disabled person, we then think of a workshop that we did, and it becomes positive. » . Eva, a child registered at the Issoire leisure center, shares her feelings:
For me it's fun, but for those who are actually in wheelchairs it's not.
She continues: “I wish those in wheelchairs could walk like us.”
This event, usually organized in Clermont-Ferrand, took place for the first time in Issoire. This made it possible to involve establishments further from the city center and to spread the message to a wider audience. Roland Lebeau, coordinator of the Collective of Organizations for the Rights of the Child of Puy-de-Dôme, specifies: “In the world we live in, children are the first victims. Their rights are often violated. It is crucial to make them aware of all this. »
In total, nearly 600 children, from kindergarten to middle school, participated in these activities during the three days of the forum.
