This afternoon, still abnormally high temperatures are expected in the South-West, while cold air will begin to rush in from the north of the country. So, who will win the showdown in the coming days: the mildness or the cold? Discover our latest forecasts in this article.
If very mild weather will prevail again this afternoon in the south of the country, significantly colder air will also rush in from the north, behind the disturbance which will still lightly water the central regions during the day.
In fact, temperatures will return to a more seasonal level this afternoon in the north, while very mild weather will persist in the south, with values sometimes 5 to 8 degrees above seasonal norms.
SO, who will prevail between these two air masses? Is it the cold or the mildness that will end up dominating in France? What if neither of them wins this showdown in the coming days? Find our latest forecasts in this article.
A disturbance waters the central regions
The disturbance that arrived yesterday in France, which watered the northern and north-western regions, will ripple across the country over the next few hours.
Gray skies will dominate central areas today, with light rain expected between Brittany, Pays de la Loire, the Center, the north of the Alps and the south of Alsace.
Very contrasting temperatures
If very mild weather will prevail for the season in the southern regions from France, a much colder air mass will rush in behind the disturbance. In these regions, temperatures will return to a level more consistent with the season, despite the return of largely sunny weather conditions.
In detail, the temperatures forecast this afternoon will be 8°C in Rouen, Nancy and Reims, 9°C in Paris, 10°C in Lille, Rennes, Le Mans and Strasbourg and 11°C in Nantes and Dijon.
In the south, the 20°C mark could be crossed towards the Basque Country, Roussillon or Corsica. The forecasts announce 19°C in Biarritz, Perpignan and Ajaccio, 18°C in Bastia and Bordeaux, 16°C in Marseille, Nice and Toulouse and 15°C in Clermont-Ferrand.
A France cut in two
With the return of high pressure at the end of the week, the sun should gradually impose itself on most regions over the coming days, after the dissipation of the fog and low clouds, sometimes numerous in the morning. Saturday could, however, be grayer between the South-West and the Western regions, due to the approach of a disturbance bringing heavy skies to these regions.
Temperatures should nevertheless remain mixed, with values close to seasonal norms in the north and north-east of the country, while softer values will persist in the south of France. However, be careful of the mornings which promise to be very cold, with possible frosts due to clear skies overnight.
The map above shows that the temperatures expected tomorrow will remain very contrasting, with significantly milder values in the western and southwest regions. The 20°C mark could once again be crossed in New Aquitaine, while in a large northeastern quarter, temperatures will not exceed 10°C.
It is in fact the regions of the north-east of France which will experience the least mild temperatures this weekend.
Sunday afternoon, some mildness could return to the northwest of the country, with maximums sometimes above 15°C, while the 20°C mark will still be exceeded locally in the southwest.
