In life, Laure Barthet is curatorial director of the Saint-Raymond museum in Toulouse. Alongside, one of his passions consists of horseback riding while discovering the Aude heritage. An attraction which earned her the opportunity to become an ambassador of the ADT with the aim of promoting tourism in the department.
Three to four times a year, Laure Barthet visits different sites in Aude on horseback. However, the bulk of his life is in Haute-Garonne. She lives in the Toulouse countryside and works daily as chief curator of heritage at the Saint-Raymond museum in Toulouse. These horseback rides are a passion in his eyes. They have almost become a ritual: “I have strong links with Aude. I had a position a few years ago in Narbonne which required me to look into the heritage of the department. Now, I am interested in it in my free time, from a another way.”
Laure Barthet has a mare which she takes care of and contributes to each of her outings. These take as their starting point the Plo equestrian farm in Val-de-Dagne. Various hiking trails are available as long as you have a horse. The duration of these varies between two and six days for the longest. “I am a native of Montlaur. The area is, in fact, not unknown to me although I discover new places with each outing”underlines the director of the Saint-Raymond museum. From his point of view, “Aude is full of places worth visiting” as long as we have adequate time to invest in it.
“I've been going there since I was 15, for horse riding, it's been 4 years. I don't think it would take me a lifetime to tour the department. Depending on the season, different trails are accessible, renewing constantly the interest of discovery.”
The Departmental Council of Aude eventually noticed its attraction for heritage. Recently, Laure Barthet acquired the status of ADT ambassador (tourist development agency). From now on, what she did out of passion, the director of the Saint-Raymond museum will be able to structure herself more. “I can combine my interests with my profession, it’s a luxury”she delights.
Over the years, Laure Barthet has seen the Department's support for equestrian tourism. “Not everyone is as advanced on the subjectshe says. Here, for example, resources are being used to develop the trails, thus improving the crossing for visitors. Many people who have experimented have given me positive feedback.”
In the future, the director of the Saint-Raymond museum intends to continue promoting the territory, in her own way, and above all “convince as many people as possible to get started”.
