For the 10th consecutive year, the agglomeration of La Baule–Guérande CapAtlantique (-Atlantique) is launching the free collection of shells in its 9 recycling centers.

Until spring

And for the second time, the operation extends from November 2024 to spring 2025. It is no longer limited to December and January, the most important months for seafood consumption.

Unlike plants, glass or metals for example, there are no places dedicated to this organic waste. Offered since 2015, the shellfish collection is an opportunity for users to give a second life to their oyster shells, mussels, scallops, clams, cockles and whelks.

All of the shells will then be processed locally in Camoël (Morbihan) by the partner company Olygéo, crushed then recycled into compost and used on agricultural plots in the region.

Sorting instructions

Individuals are invited to sort their shells and place them free of charge in bins provided specifically for the operation, within the 9 recycling centers. Don't forget to remove plastic bags, finger rinses, paper towels, crab shells, langoustine heads, shrimp, lemons, leftover molluscs. All types of shellfish are accepted.

28 tonnes collected in 2023

During the last edition, 28 tonnes of shells were collected. The extension of the period made it possible to almost double this tonnage

compared to other years.
