traces of plague found in a letter sent to a school

“No symptoms have been declared to date” by people who were exposed to mail sent to an establishment in Chalon-sur-Saône, specifies the prefecture.

Traces of plague were found in a letter addressed to a training establishment in Chalon-sur-Saône (Saône-et-), but none of the symptoms of the bacteria are currently declared by “potential victims”the Saône-et Loire prefecture said on Wednesday.

“Several envelopes from abroad were received by the Colint School training center (…) A white powder was present in one of these envelopes. She was analyzed and tested positive for the plague.explained the prefecture on its website. “No symptoms have been reported to date” by people who were exposed to the mail, she stressed, without specifying when the envelopes were received or the number of these “potential victims”.

The latter were transferred and then placed under medical supervision at the university hospital center (CHU) of Chalon-sur-Saône in a nuclear radiological biological and chemical structure (NRBC). According to Blue Burgundysix employees of the training center were treated, but did not present any symptoms.

Specialized laboratory requested

The prefect of Saône-et-Loire indicated that he had lifted a watch cell which had been activated early Wednesday evening. “in order to put in place all precautionary measures and coordinate the action of the various intervention and rescue services”. He is due to hold a press conference Thursday morning alongside the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) and the police services.

A specialized laboratory was also contacted to carry out additional analysis, the same source added. Located in the La Sucrerie district, the Colint School training center is a private school which teaches digital professions and which has around thirty students.
