He shone with his words during his pleadings, but today he shone with his silence. This Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Julien D., tenor of the Créteil bar (Val-de-Marne), was to be tried before the Paris criminal court for domestic violence and death threats against several former partners. The defendant did not appear at the hearing, and neither did his three counsel, causing the irritation of the civil party and the public prosecutor. The trial was therefore postponed until February.

“I’m going to slaughter you like a sow”

The facts alleged against Julien D. are numerous and extend over several years. The latter allegedly committed violence against his former partner, and made death threats against other women, in particular two lawyers from the Créteil bar. “I'm going to buy a Glock, and put a bullet in each of your heads,” he allegedly told one of them in April 2024. “I'm going to slaughter you like a sow,” he reportedly said to another one.

The lawyer released

For all of these facts, the lawyer was arrested and imprisoned at the end of October. By decision of the Paris Court of Appeal, he was finally released on November 22, 2024. To the judges, the latter assured of his presence this Wednesday at the hearing. The false promise did not fail to provoke a reaction from the public prosecutor. “It’s amazing how you can change your mind in a few days,” said the prosecutor.

The defendant's defense brandished two arguments to request a referral this Wednesday. First, Julien D. would not be in the psychological state to appear at a hearing. “He suffered a real prison shock,” said the lawyer present at his side. “Yes, then a prison shock, because once released, he does not want to come to the hearing,” retorted the prosecutor. Second, the three lawyers chosen by the tenor of the bar were not available this afternoon.

“His condition has not improved one millimeter”

On the stand, Julien D.'s former partner briefly spoke about the alarming state of her ex-spouse: “I thought that my departure with the children would make him aware, but I have the impression that his condition has not improved one millimeter since. He emerges even more powerful from detention.” The victim pointed out the care obligations not respected by the tenor of the bar. The latter had to be hospitalized to treat a serious alcoholism problem, but this is still not the casemuch to the surprise of the court.

Faced with a fait accompli, the judges were forced to send the case back. The hearing is scheduled to be held on February 6, 2025.
