Kidnapping of little Santiago: the father has changed his mind, he will soon be handed over to

Little Santiago’s father will be handed over to within ten days, the Amsterdam court confirmed.

The father arrested with the mother in Amsterdam for having kidnapped their very premature baby in October in a maternity hospital near , will be handed over to the French authorities within ten days, an Amsterdam court declared on Wednesday.

Very prematurely born two months early, the newborn, then 17 days old, was taken on October 21 by his parents from a hospital in Aulnay-sous-, near Paris, where he was placed in an incubator.

After four days of tracking, Dutch police found the two parents and the baby, named Santiago, on October 25 in a hotel in Amsterdam.

The mother had accepted the accelerated procedure of surrender to France. She was indicted in early November in France but left free under judicial supervision.

The father, for his part, opted for a long procedure and remained in pre-trial detention in the Netherlands, before changing his mind.

Discount is allowed

The man finally opted for the accelerated surrender procedure“, the Amsterdam court said on Wednesday. “Discount is permitted. This will take place within ten days.“, he added.

The case was highly publicized, due to the triggering of kidnapping alerts in France and Belgium. The parents had crossed the Belgian border near Hensies and their car was then found in Charleroi.

Many police officers were mobilized to quickly find the baby who required constant care.

The baby was repatriated to France on November 1.
