A year after its arrival in Guyana, the Sky High airline is refueling

One year after his arrival, the airline Sky High has satisfactory occupancy rates for its planes. The destination Santo Domingo excites the Guyanese, and the opposite too. Implemented in December 2023, the stopover in Fort-de- is also very successful.

The time has come for the first assessment for the Sky High airline. A year ago, she arrived at Félix Eboué airport with her orange and gray planes.

Since then, she has been stocking up. Almost 11 000 passengers were transported between June 2023, the date the line was established, and November 2024.

“The occupancy rate is increasing, announces Josephina Cabrera, sales manager of the Sky High company. We can say that the Guyana destination is becoming known and is a success.. Sky High offers attractive prices for its two weekly rotations between Guyana and Santo Domingo.

Implemented in December 2023, the stopover at Fort-de-France also makes it possible to optimize the occupancy rate of flights.

Between June 2023 and June 2024, the company experienced a 34% increase in the number of passengers. The company's two Embraers have a capacity of 88 and 97 seats.

On these flights, 40 seats are reserved for Guyanese. A quota granted by the DGAC, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation for a question of competition.

Until now Air France was the only carrier to provide the connection between the two French territories, this is the first time that a foreign company has entered the equation. “From the moment all the players are ready to discuss the sustainability of this line, everyone will perhaps be ready to review the agreements”says Loic Buzare, director of the Guyana Tourism Committee.

The Sky High company does not, however, position itself as a direct competitor to Air France with its two weekly flights.

Above all, it wants to continue to open its destinations. Guyana appeals to the people of Santo Domingo and the other way around too. Guyanese visit and enjoy the Dominican Republic.

Each time, we get good feedback from the Guyanese who go there, they liked it.

She reminds us that the Dominican Republic is a family destination. “They go there with their families to relax, there are amusement parks and we also have a culinary culture that resembles Caribbean culture and that of adds Josephina Cabrera.

The Guyana Tourism Committee hopes not to stop there. This additional offer makes it possible to bring new tourists to Guyana, according to Loic Buzare, director of the Guyana Tourism Committee.

The objective is to perpetuate this line by making the destination better known from Santo Domingo and bringing tourists to Guyana.

A strategy that the Sky High company is also working on. “We want to encourage Dominicans to discover and visit Cayenne,” assures Josephina Cabrera. Sales manager of the Sky High company. She wants to propose “accessible travel because purchasing power is lower than in Guyana”.

According to her, Dominicans are very sensitive “sustainable development and ecology” and the Guyana destination could well appeal to them more.

Born in 2012, Sky High Aviation is based in Santo Domingo. It operates from Las Américas José Francisco Peña Gómez International Airport, a real hub that allows travelers to access destinations in South America.
