Social plans: the CGT calls on “employees to go on strike and occupy their factories”

The general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, called this Wednesday for “employees to go on strike and occupy their factories to prevent layoffs”, as well as for a day of mobilizations in front of factories and prefectures on December 12. “We are now calling on employees affected by the layoff plans to go on strike and occupy their factories,” Sophie Binet declared at a press conference. The CGT also calls “employees to action to defend employment and industry”, she continued, estimating that “nearly 250 layoff plans in preparation, concerning between 170,000 and 200,000 jobs” are in progress.

Michelin, ArcelorMittal, Auchan, MA France… Social plans have been multiplying for several weeks in France, affecting all regions. “There is an extremely fatalistic discourse which is maintained”, judged Sophie Binet, but “the mobilization of employees always changes the situation, there is never anything inevitable in terms of employment”.
