Mayennais Guillaume Ramond selected for the world pétanque championship

Guillaume Ramond landed at -Charles-de-Gaulle airport (Roissy) on Friday November 22, 2024, from Melbourne, Australia, where he lives. After 24 hours of flight, he went from a temperature of 32°C to snow and ice, and returned to his parents' home in Lassay-les-Châteaux (Mayenne). In the coming days, he will compete in several pétanque competitions.

First pétanque competition at the age of 5

At a very young age, Guillaume, like his two sisters, devoted himself to the family passion: pétanque. From the age of five, he was already confronting adults, notably during a workshop followed by a competition in Ambrières-les-Vallées, where he defends himself well,” as commented in the newspapers of the time. Training and competitions follow one another. Guillaume wins many, notably the Mayennais championship in junior doubles.

Departure for New Zealand, then Australia

His mother Giselle explains: At a very young age, he already expressed his wish to go to Canada or Australia. First of all, it will be New Zealand, where Guillaume is involved in the creation and establishment of bakeries. Then, after 4 to 5 years, I then left for Australia, still in the bakery, in a central depot with 750 employees, deployed on three sites. I work in Melbourne. I was able to climb the ladder; I am now production manager.”

In Melbourne, Guillaume naturally continued to train, establishing contact with the Australian federation, which has 1,600 members. His team has participated in the world championships several times.

Competing with his teammates in Changé this weekend

Guillaume Ramond is the Frenchman on the Australian team (he has dual nationality) which is participating in the World Championships, in , from December 5 to 8, 2024. He has just been appointed captain a few days ago.

His three teammates arrive by plane on Thursday November 28. Accommodated in Lassay-les-Châteaux, they will participate in the pétanque competition called The Three Days of Changé, on November 29, 30 and 1is December. The president of the Australian pétanque federation even made the trip; he will discover , accompanied by his wife. Then he will go to support the Australian team in Dijon, closely following both the precision shooting event and the triplet championship.
