“Judicial investigations, under the authority of the Nîmes public prosecutor, are underway to identify the suspects,” assures the prefect of Gard Jérôme Bonet.
This morning, Gard farmers carried out strong actions to show their anger, particularly in Nîmes. To raise awareness of their difficulties, farmers chose the strong method by attacking several buildings housing different organizations and services.
This was the case of the Payment Service Agency on Boulevard Salvador Allende in Nîmes, where a fire was lit in the parking lot, just like the premises of the MSA. The entrance was bricked up and a window was broken. Material damage also noted at the headquarters of Crédit Agricole Mas de Cheylon.
In reaction to these actions, the prefect of Gard, Jérôme Bonet, reacted by way of a press release and condemned “with the greatest firmness the acts of violence which led to damage on the sidelines of the farmers' demonstration in the Nîmes sector.”
Before specifying: “Judicial investigations, under the authority of the Nîmes public prosecutor, are underway to identify the suspects.” If until now, relations were rather good between Jérôme Bonet and the agricultural union representatives, they risk becoming strained, especially since the farmers plan to continue to mobilize.
