The night of November 26 was marked by agricultural protests which took an unexpected and regrettable turn. Farmers, rightly, have expressed their dissatisfaction with their precarious economic situation, a situation which will undoubtedly be worsened by the consequences of the free trade agreements with Mercosur. Organized by the FNSEA and the Young Farmers (JA), this event aimed to draw attention to the growing difficulties in the agricultural world. However, what should have been a peaceful demonstration of legitimate demands degenerated into acts of vandalism. Some demonstrators took the opportunity to ransack the premises of the federation of the French Communist Party (PCF) of Tarn-et-Garonne. The damage included illegal dumping, broken windows and stolen equipment, all damage that the communists of Tarn-et-Garonne struggled to understand. In a press release, the PCF 82 recalls “that through the work of André Chassaigne, they have always been engaged in the revaluation of agricultural pensions and the necessary recognition of farmers' companions. In the current context of signing the agreements of free trade, the deputies, senators and communist activists have never stopped fighting against these agreements which they consider murderous and to confirm their solidarity with the difficulties of the agricultural world. These degradations, devoid of political substance, seem to be a pretext for certain unions to appear tougher than others, in a context of professional agricultural elections. The just anger of farmers cannot be exploited by a union hungry for votes. The communists of Tarn-et-Garonne are renewing. their support for the peasant world, waiting for remunerative prices, economic justice and a better quality of life.”
