The large retail chain Carrefour has chosen to quickly apply the principle of precaution. The day after the publication of a video concerning a dairy farm in Haute-Marne singled out for its mistreatment, the group chose to suspend its supply from this breeder. To be precise, the Carrefour group asked the Ermitage company to suspend this supply from the breeder.
“The practices highlighted by the video transmitted by L214 do not comply with our rules. These were noted by L214 at a dairy farmer who supplies the Ermitage cheese manufacturer. This cheese manufacturer notably supplies Carrefour for some of its own-brand references.
Carrefour therefore asks its supplier, the company Ermitage, to “immediately initiate an investigation with this breeder, which will be carried out by an independent expert. Pending the results of this investigation, Carrefour is asking the Ermitage company to suspend its supplies from the breeder implicated in the L214 video.
Beyond this audit, Carrefour ensures that it has asked Ermitage to carry out the necessary checks on all of its suppliers and producers. This action plan is already being implemented since a first assessment by a veterinary practice is planned for today, Wednesday November 27.
This suspension of supply comes even though the Haute-Marne prefecture indicates that it has no grievance towards the breeding in question. “Following the broadcast on social networks by the L214 association of a video denouncing the conditions of breeding located in Leschères-sur-le-Blaiseron, the prefect of Haute-Marne immediately requested intervention on site veterinary services… As a result, this farm is not unfavorably known to veterinary services. No complaints relating to animal mistreatment have been received during the last five years. regular health monitoring by a health veterinarian”.
The checks carried out on Tuesday November 26 did not reveal any acts of mistreatment.
