Solidarity: Islanders are showing generosity as the end-of-year holidays approach

This end-of-year period can encourage generosity. As the holidays approach, many solidarity events are organized. Collections of toys or food products are organized by associations, companies or even individuals. A call for donations always well followed by us.

As Christmas approaches, the generosity of the people of is requested. Toys, gifts or simple contributions, charity collections have started, this is particularly the case in a fast-food restaurant in Sainte-Marie.

This is the first time we have organized this collection. All toys collected will be redistributed to Emmaüs. A part will be sold and the other will be given to children in very precarious situations“, explains Raïssa Boyer, president of the “les zelles” association.

Lindigo, Raynaud and Mickaël Clency were present during a charity concert at the Parc du Colosse. An event organized to help sick children, donations are intended for 4 structures.

“I sang for all the people who were there for the sick children. The people had a good atmosphere, they were very energetic“, explains Raynaud Sadon.

Despite inflation, the generosity of the Reunionese is still great. The students of the Jean-Claude Fruteau high school were able to raise 4,000 euros thanks to their raffle, they hope to reach a total of 8,000 euros. “We attracted quite a few people, we see that despite the economic context there are very many people, they are present and we have had a lot of donations“, indicates Maëva Barthes, professor of economic and social sciences.

Last weekend the food bank was spread across 65 stores across the island for its annual solidarity operation. “In the first half of 204, we have a 20% increase in demand compared to the first half of 2023. Due to inflation, the population needs our services more and more. A new development is that we are seeing people appear who are integrated, who have housing, a job, but their level of remuneration is insufficient to allow the entire family to live in very good conditions.“, explains Bruno Prochasson, President of the Mascarene Food Bank.

Actions are being carried out everywhere until the end of the year to bring smiles to people in need or to sick children. That's also the magic of Christmas.
