Installed in 2021, the new city council from Villers-Canivet (Calvados), near Falaise, decided to establish a tradition to greet births that occurred the previous year.
Opening this year's ceremony, Mayor Jean-Louis Bonne recalled: “a tree is a symbol of life, longevity and strength.” This year, the municipality is planting a flowering pear tree dedicated to the five girls, Alma, Anaëlle, Jeanne, Delya, Pia and Meyz the only boy, born in 2023.
The number of births falling
The mayor of Villers-Canivet recalls that the number of births in the town is decreasing.
In 2020, 2021 and 2022, we welcomed the arrival of 8, 12 and 13 little Villersois.
The latter hopes that for the planting of the 5th tree, the figures will start to rise again.
In the meantime, the parents present placed a shovel of earth at the foot of the tree located near the playground.
