Stade Malherbe Caen will finally play its 8th round of the Coupe de France at home, at the Ornano stadium, this Saturday, November 30 (1:30 p.m.) against Bolbec (R1). The French Football Federation sent a letter to the clubs, a little after 11 a.m., officially announcing the reversal of the match.
The Bolbec stadium was not approved for this meeting, Petit Thumb of the Normandy League had looked for other solutions. Especially since its president wanted at all costs to play this meeting in Seine-Maritime. The choice to play at Pavilly, on a synthetic pitch, was validated by the FFF six days ago, before the Seine-Maritime sub-prefecture met urgently this Tuesday, November 26 and refused the organization of this match. “They didn’t want to because they were afraid that supporters from Rouen and Le Havre would come, in addition to supporters from Caen, and that everyone’s safety would not be guaranteed”confirms Kévin Beaufils, president of Bolbec.
The fallback solution was therefore to reverse the matches and for this 8th round of the Coupe de France to finally be played at Ornano. This will prevent Bolbec from paying the sum requested by SM Caen (€84,000) to rent the Ornano stadium to them. “Our players will have the opportunity to play in a big stadium. But the atmosphere will not be the same, underlines Kévin Beaufils. We are obviously disappointed, because we would have liked to play in a small stadium, with the pitch close to the supporters, to our loved ones. » The party will indeed not be the same.
