“Together for Luzech” celebrates the tenth edition of the Christmas market the Saturday November 30, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the heart of the village of Luzechin the Lot valley.
At the same time, the book fair will take place the same day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both levels of the Luzech media library and in the Armand Virée Museum room.
Christmas market in Luzech
If there is a time of year that amazes children and gives adults a sweet nostalgia, it is Christmas time with its traditions, its lights, its gifts, its family gatherings and, of course, its Christmas markets.
In Luzech, it is the “Together for Luzech” association that is responsible for organizing this event, one of the two major events in the town with its votive festival.
And EPL (the acronym of the association), sees things big. With its dozens of volunteers, it adorns the streets with their most beautiful finery: pennants, ribbons, branches of mistletoe, holly, lanterns, various illuminations. But if the celebration is beautiful, it is also short: only the day of Saturday November 30 is dedicated to it. The curtain rises at 10 a.m. on the magic of Christmas, a mixture of sweet and spicy flavors, colors and lights. 50 exhibitors are expected: choice, ideas, something to find happiness in anticipation of the traditional gifts.
Children's show and concert
A children's show supervised by the festival committee will take place in the house of consuls, Grand rue de la Ville, at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Santa Claus accompanied by his faithful elf will obviously be present. It seems that this year, his basket will be overflowing with candy! Many other surprises await you throughout this beautiful day.
At 6 p.m., time for the concert hosted by the “Big Fools” which will close the festivities. And the curtain will fall at 7 p.m.
The 9 previous editions have all attracted thousands of visitors. We can bet that the tenth will be no exception to the rule.
And a book fair
The book fair “Plumes d'Ici” will also take place on Saturday November 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both levels of the Luzech media library as well as in the Armand Virée Museum room which is located in the same premises, at 152 Grand rue de the City. This will be the 3rd edition of this event.
The last Saturday of November is also the date chosen by the Ensemble pour Luzech association to hold their Christmas Market, an emblematic event in the town which attracts thousands of visitors each year. This conjunction is not a coincidence. The organizers of the show saw this as an opportunity. As in Luzech, synergy between the different associations is the rule, Ensemble pour Luzech has agreed to allow the little news to benefit from their communication and the impressive influx of visitors that they attract at each edition.
This is precisely what makes the strength of the Luzech associative world. Everyone pursues the same goal: to contribute through entertainment and culture to the dynamics of the municipality. Each relays to its audience information relating to other associations. We pool resources, communication, and give a helping hand when setting up events. If certain structures, jealous of their specificities, are reluctant to share, we hope that the good understanding which seems general will overcome their reluctance and convince them to contribute to emulation.
It is also the concern for this synergy that pushed Marie Droullé, Heritage Attaché and responsible for the building, to launch the idea of this book fair. Indeed, in addition to the media library, the building houses the Armand Virée Archaeological Museum, where the objects exhumed during the various excavations carried out around the Gallic oppidum of Impernal perched on a rocky promontory which dominates the city are exhibited, and the 'Ichnospace which devotes its rooms to paleontology and in particular to the remains of the Jurassic era which are very numerous in the region. Organizing a book fair during the Christmas Market was a way of taking advantage of the crowds to promote these places of crucial importance for Luzech.
Local authors
Marie Droullé notes the presence of many writers on the territory of the commune. She shares this observation with the Lire à Luzech association which, 25 years ago, initiated the creation of a library which would become the media library. This abundance of local “feathers” gave them the idea of dedicating an event there: this is how the “Plumes d’Ici” show was created. Around fifteen authors participated in the first edition.
We will find some of them this year because they have published new works. Others will make their first appearance such as Jon Pressnel, automobile journalist and historian, Philippe Delamare author of thrillers, Eric Argano passionate about the Renaissance period, the storyteller Richard Pokora, Katia Hamadi for the writings of Poilus, Sofia Sari for her initiatory novel, Olivier Bensa, renowned guitarist and author of a first novel… all genres of literature will be represented, from historical novels to manga, enough to prepare the gifts under the tree for you and those you love!
