The Departmental Federation of Cadurque Oppids (FDOC) invites to the conference given by Alexandre Bertaud, researcher within the Lot departmental archeology unit, this Thursday, November 28, at the Arcambal cultural space, at 6:30 p.m. ( FREE ENTRANCE). This 3rd conference organized by the FDOC comes after that of Didier Rigal who shed light on the importance of deciduous sites and raised hopes of a better understanding thanks to new data from recent surveys of the territory.
The themes proposed by Alexandre Bertaud: archaeological research on the Gauls in the Lot has had a long tradition since the 19th century. This research made it possible to understand different aspects of life at that time, in particular around the places where people lived: the oppidum. Excavation campaigns carried out over time have provided valuable information enriched by new approaches. Thus, it is now possible to carry out a number of non-intrusive studies which allow us to better understand the different aspects of living spaces. Using these approaches, it is then possible to understand the organization of the sites and target surveys and excavations more precisely. During this conference, Alexandre Bertaud will address the new issues developed in order to understand the organization of cadurque oppida and the research perspectives around these themes.
Alexandre Bertaud is a researcher within the Lot departmental archeology unit, attached to the UMR Traces of the University of Toulouse Jean-Jaurès, protohistorian archaeologist specializing in the Second Iron Age, in particular in the archaeological manifestations of the fact warrior. After a doctoral thesis on issues of armaments, exchanges of warlike practices and military adaptations in Western Europe, he is currently working on fortified towns of high altitude.
