An illegal construction was demolished this Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
It was carried out in the absence of any planning permission, on non-building land in the commune of Poussan (in an agricultural zone). This is a new action by State services carried out as part of the fight against cabanization. The automatic destruction of this construction (in this case a storage shelter of 70.4m2 and a 55m enclosure wall) took place following administrative and legal procedures, after observing the inaction of the owner.

“The latter was in fact ordered to restore the premises by the Montpellier criminal court, under financial penalties, and despite a final formal notice, refused to act”details the Hérault prefecture. Consequently, and as a last resort, the prefect, in conjunction with the public prosecutor at the Montpellier judicial court, decided to proceed with the demolition of the illegal property, as well as a surrounding wall, at the expense and risk of the convicted person.
New demolitions planned
This demolition and restoration operation, which required the evacuation of numerous waste, mobilized agents from the departmental directorate of territories and the sea of Hérault (DDTM 34), soldiers from the departmental gendarmerie group , as well as a specialized company for demolition. The prefect of Hérault, François-Xavier Lauch, recalls “the prevalence of the cabanization phenomenon in the department, the strong commitment of the State in this fight, and the multiple issues involved”:
- force must remain with the law:: all citizens must comply with town planning rules and apply court decisions;
- preserve agricultural areas and the environment;
- prevent natural hazards such as forest fires and floods.
