Stellantis will reduce its production in by 20%

Automobile production must depend on trade. It is a fairly healthy rule that Stellantis is putting in place in order to avoid the overproduction which is still invading the automobile industry after a healthier period of two years following the health crisis.

A 20% drop in production in 2025

According to information collected by our colleague Les Échos, the Franco-Italian-American group has revised downwards its production forecast for its French sites for 2024. The factories should only produce 605,000 vehicles this year, compared to 766,000 initially planned. again at the end of last year, a drop of 20%.

Every French factory would be hit, some harder than others. , where the Peugeot 308 and 508 as well as the DS 7 e-Tense are manufactured, saw its production fall by 22%. At Hordain, which specializes in utility vehicles, the drop also reached 22%, fueling concerns about a possible relocation to Türkiye.

In , production fell below 100,000 vehicles, recording a drop of 28%. As for Sochaux, the factory will only produce 165,000 cars instead of the 200,000 planned. However, an improvement is expected in 2025, with projections close to 300,000 units, thanks to the expected success of the new 3008 and 5008 SUVs.

Sound management to avoid European fines

As a reminder, at the beginning of November, Jean-Philippe Imparato, director of Stellantis for wider Europe, announced this adaptation of the production of French and European factories according to demand.

Regarding these penalties of the CAFE 2025 regulations, the Stellantis manager was categorical: “I will not pay penalties, whatever the method. Each electric vehicle sold (BEV) generates 4 emission credits for thermal vehicles. This means that, to be compliant, I will sell more electrics. And we will produce only according to demand. » Everything is said, or almost. It remains to find the method, which will require fine adjustment between the different European countries, as well as precise monitoring of orders between individuals and BtoB.
