After playing Maria Callas under the direction of Pablo Larraín, Angelina Jolie once again sets down her bags in . This time, she will headline Alice Winocour's new film, “Coutures.” The American actress now seems inextricably linked to the French capital, for ever more ambitious projects.

Angelina Jolie: a triumphant return with Maria

Angelina Jolie made an impression at the last Venice Film Festival with her performance in “Maria”, where she plays the legendary singer Maria Callas. Directed by Pablo Larraín, this film returns to the diva's last days in 1977, in Paris.

When it was presented in Venice, the film received an eight-minute standing ovation, and Angelina Jolie found herself propelled into the Oscar race for the first time in 15 years.

In this demanding role, Angelina Jolie explored the torment and grace of Callas, capturing the essence of this iconic operatic figure. She told CANAL+ that during the first scene where she had to sing, she was unable to contain her emotion.

Director Pablo Larraín, already acclaimed for his portraits of iconic women (“Jackie”, “Spencer”), once again collaborated with Steven Knight on the screenplay to deliver an intimate and touching work, which was shot in the French capital.

Thanks to this project, Angelina Jolie returns to the critical distinctions that marked her career in the 2000s, notably with “A Stolen Life” (Oscar for best supporting actress) and “The Exchange” by Clint Eastwood ( Oscar nomination).

Coutures: a new French adventure

Angelina Jolie doesn't stop there. In a few days, she will return to Paris to begin filming “Coutures”, the next film by French director Alice Winocour (“Proxima”, “Revoir Paris”). This feature film, the filmmaker's first in English, will take place in the world of haute couture and at the heart of Paris Fashion Week.

In “Coutures”, Angelina Jolie will play a director whose destiny will intersect with that of two other women in an choral story which promises to explore the tensions, the dramas and the behind the scenes of this very codified environment. The rest of the cast includes Louis Garrel, Ella Rumpf, Finnegan Oldfield, Anyier Anei and Garance Marillier.

The filming, planned in French and English, confirms the internationalization of Alice Winocour's cinema. For Angelina Jolie, this is a new collaboration with a European director, and marks her desire to diversify her repertoire while remaining faithful to demanding projects.
