It is to the Compagnie des ports du Morbihan, a local public company (SPL), that management of the port has been entrusted for a year; before, this management was in the hands of the elected officials of the agglomeration.

This handover allows a team made up of professionals to ensure the sustainability of port activities. And, in the future, to expand the offer of 169 locations, particularly in dry ports.

At the Redon port captaincy, Ange Croguennoc serves as port master. She works for La Compagnie des ports du Morbihan (CPM), as evidenced by her clothing stamped with the registered trademark, created in 2012 by the Morbihan Departmental Council.

The port director, Jean-Paul Benon, details the qualities required in the exercise of his profession: “In addition to being oriented towards others with welcoming qualities, Ange has commercial skills, management skills in control of loads and work planning,” lists the man who is also the director of the port of Vannes.

Attractive and complete!

Locations at the port of Redon are very popular. The port? “It is 100% full”, informs the port master, “half with boats for river navigation and half for maritime navigation with a few motor units”. The navigation area is a fantastic playground: the Nantes-Brest canal, the Vilaine and the ocean a few hours away…

“Some boats navigate both river and sea, even if this navigation area is remote. This port attracts this type of boater,” analyzes Ange Croguennoc.

Due to its geographical location, “Redon is a real river crossroads”, the port is popular. This harbor master further observes that in the nautical sector “it is often men who are the captains of the ships”.

More and more demands

The Morbihan Ports Company manages 18 marinas, mainly in the Morbihan department. With its investment capacity, it is an asset for port towns and villages where activity linked to boating is developing, even if: “This season, we are recording a drop in activity due mainly to weather conditions”, underlines Michel Le Bras, general director of the CPM. “The drop is 6 to 7% to be qualified, but there is a strong appetite. Our suffering activities are really linked to the weather context.” However, the CPM must constantly improve in order to best meet new expectations “with the development of digital technology, we must be reactive to satisfy boaters”, recognizes Jean-Paul Benon. Apps, cutting-edge services… boaters now want to be connected and be able to count on professionals linked to their leisure activities in case of specific needs: marine mechanics, sailmaker, saddler, chandler, carpenter, laminator… when not not a complete project for more serious damage or simply painting the submarine.

At the port of Redon, around twenty boats are manned all year round. Sometimes by marginalized people who make this choice.

We met Myriam and Christophe on Vivœr. They live on a 12 meter sailboat, a 39 footer. Each month, they are billed €172 for the location, water and electricity consumption with 500 Kwh, access to the recycling center and port toilets.
