THE farmers of Nord-Isère were still mobilized on November 26. At the call of the FDSEA and jyoung farmers of Isère (JA 38) they gathered at midday in front of the sub-prefecture of Tour-du-Pin, where they were to be received to discuss local water management problems.
Take back control of water management and maintenance of wetlands
The movement is not completely disconnected from the national movement, but wants to be available in the territories explains Jérôme Crozat, president of FDSEA 38.

And today farmers have had enough of this excess water. “we do not carry out rigorous enough maintenance, unlike for example in the Grenoble region where an authorized trade union association operates upstream and downstream of the Isère river.”

An observation shared by Aymeric Seigle and Marine Dufour, among the JA 38. “Wet zones, irrigation, cleaning of ditches, water retention… are daily problems. We hope for strong responsiveness on these subjects. For example, we could have intervened before the September floods: the agricultural sector must be fully integrated to the water management plan in the local prefecture”.
It is for discuss solutions in the sector from Tour-du-Pin, to Bourgoin-Jallieu via Morestel and the Viennese country that the farmers had to be received.
Working directly with state services in Isère
The president of the FDSEA of Isère also calls for stronger solidarity of neighboring territories, in particular the Lyon metropolitan area authorized to flood the Isère plains in the event of a risk of flooding in Lyon.
“A Napoleonic decree authorizes Lyon to flood Brangues and Bouchage. But the repair of the ditches is the responsibility of farmers and municipalities. The pumps are not maintained by the metropolis. We should establish a remuneration scale, to compensate the farmers who are forced to shift their crops.”
The unions mobilized today in Nord-Isère nevertheless salute the work carried out by the former prefect of Isère, which the new prefect confirmed during her installation on November 26. “The meetings organized by the former prefect were constructive, and we are invited this evening to a working meeting with the new prefect. We have not changed everything, but we are managing to find solutions for local problems.”
