Since returning from the All Saints holidays, Hervé Masson has headed the Jeanne-d'Arc school. He takes over from Véronique Cabanis, who retired on October 31. Already a trainer and specialist teacher, his accession to the management of the establishment marks the desire of the Departmental Directorate of Catholic Education (DDEC) of Mende to place emphasis on inclusive schooling.
A proposal from the Diocese
“The DDEC offered me the leadership of the school at the end of last school year. The possibility of keeping my position as a specialist teacher and knowing the team made me respond positively”explains Hervé Masson. As soon as she gives her answer, a relationship begins with the former director. For three years, Hervé Masson has shared his schedule between several educational establishments, including the schools of Châteauneuf-de-Randon and Jeanne-d'Arc. He acts as a specialist teacher, in co-intervention with a class teacher or by leading groups of a few students with special educational needs (SEN). “He is keen to accompany everyone and leave no one behind and, in this way, is in the spirit of Catholic teaching”comments Geneviève Malavieille, mission manager for the first degree with the Diocese in Mende.
A unique journey
After a BTS in Hospitality and Catering at the Sacré-Cœur high school in Saint-Chély-d'Apcher, Mr. Masson obtained a degree in Educational Sciences in 2003. He then passed the school teacher competition, which he obtained in 2008. He trained in teaching adapted to students with disabilities and validated, in 2010, the Certificate of professional aptitude for specialized aids. For almost ten years, he coordinated a local specialized education unit (ULIS) at Les Tilleuls school in Mende. In April 2014, he responded to a mission from the Diocese to co-facilitate inclusive school training for teachers in the Diocese of Ziguinchor (Senegal). Since 2017, he has held the positions of both a specialist teacher and a temporary trainer for the ISFEC in Montpellier. Since 2018, he has invested in the support network of schools in Châteauneuf-de-Randon and Langogne.
Another path
The new director took office in the context of the anniversary week of the Chemin de Stevenson association. The school participated in a highlight, on November 8, with the hike from Pradelles to Langogne then, with the decoration of the donkeys which paraded through the streets of the city, at the beginning of the evening.
Since then, the new organization has gradually been put in place. “I remain on Véronique’s operations with two afternoons off: Tuesdays and Fridays”specifies the person concerned. He continues his interventions in Châteauneuf on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday mornings and goes to the Jeanne-d'Arc school the rest of the time. Patricia Gonzalez is responsible for the management delegation. Since October, a first school project has seen the light of day, with the arrangement of different spaces in the playground. “This must allow each student to move, relax, develop their creativity and their relationships with others”concludes Hervé Masson.
