Special States of : “AI, a unique chance to generate significant growth” – the column by Olivier Girard (Accenture)

The potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) can significantly boost the French economy by transforming jobs and productivity. The contribution of AI, which is expected to impact up to 40% of jobs in , is estimated at 629 billion euros in additional GDP by 2038. But only a collective, human-centered approach will allow to unlock its full potential and deliver sustainable growth.

Artificial intelligence is not a simple tool but a vector for profound transformation of the economy. And this, not in the distant future but today. With its technological prowess and its penchant for a socially responsible approach to innovation, France has all the assets to make the most of the transformative impact of AI and in particular generative AI. In the country, 40% of different job categories are significantly exposed to its impact, with at least 50% of their tasks likely to be transformed. This concerns a total of 39% of the working population. Generative AI is more than just a series of algorithms, it is a catalyst for redefining productivity, rethinking existing employment structures and sparking new economic strategies.

A strategic opportunity to seize now

Generative AI is also a strategic opportunity for business leaders. By taking the plunge now, they will be able to benefit from this tremendous potential estimated at around 629 billion euros in additional GDP in France by 2038, an increase of 1.3% in annual growth.

This considerable contribution to the national economy is possible if companies choose a human-centered AI adoption scenario. A much more effective option than an aggressive scenario opting for rapid adoption of technology with workers whose skills do not sufficiently meet the requirements of generative AI. An option that is also more efficient than a conversely cautious scenario banking on a slower adoption of the technology spread out, for example, over fifteen years.

Fostering innovation and sustainable growth

A collective, human-centered approach to the adoption of generative AI offers France a unique chance to generate significant economic growth. By aligning technological advancements with workforce development and thereby emphasizing balanced adoption of generative AI, France can spearhead optimal integration of new technologies with enhanced skills and capabilities of employees, thereby fostering innovation and sustainable growth. This involves reinventing the French economic landscape by positioning generative AI as a cornerstone of innovation and competitive advantage, while investing in training and job reinvention. The challenge and opportunity for France therefore lie in reducing the current gap between the potential of AI and its still insufficient effective implementation.
