The debate in the National Assembly serves to show that France is “almost unanimous on the need to oppose this free trade agreement”declared Tuesday, November 26 on franceinfo Benoît Biteau, farmer, agronomist and environmentalist deputy for Charente-Maritime, while a debate on Mercosur was organized in the afternoon in the hemicycle. The MP recalls that the vote “is not binding” and he is “practically acquired”. “It’s a symbolic dimension.”
This debate will also allow, according to Benoît Biteau, to “put pressure on the three pillars of the European Union” : the Council of Europe “where Mr. Macron is having difficulty gathering the qualified majority to reject this agreement”the European Commission “which seems to want to accelerate” with “a Mercorsur summit” organized the “December 5”, as well as on the European Parliament, where the vote “risks being much tighter than the one we are going to see this afternoon”, underlines the MP.
This vote in the National Assembly may “show that France, which is an important country for the European Union, one of the founders, is not inclined to agree with the content of this free trade agreement”adds Benoît Biteau.
