Le Nautilus swimming pool closes for rehabilitation from November 30

The Le Nautilus swimming pool in Amiens will close its doors for 18 months of work from the evening of November 30. The Nautilus swimming pool, inaugurated in 1994is located in the heart of the northern districts of Amiens. It was built with the aim of meet sporting, educational and recreational needs. It constitutes a key element of territorial planning with the Coliseum (city center) and the Aquapôle (southern sector).

The swimming pool shows signs of aging

Today, after thirty years of operation, Le Nautilus shows signs of structural aging, with degradation of pools and equipment whose functionalities no longer meet current requirements. This situation notably led to a reduction in attendance at the installation.

To overcome this observation, Amiens Métropole hired the architectural firm TNA Architectsspecialized in the renovation and construction of aquatic equipment, to redevelop and restructure the swimming pool. The total amount of the project is estimated at 9.5 million euros including tax. The main works will begin at first quarter 2025for scheduled delivery at the start of the second half of 2026.

The work to be done

The work that will be carried out is as follows:

• reorganization of changing rooms : transition to single flow and modernization of cabins,
• rehabilitation of ponds : replacement of materials with coated stainless steel solutions such as Myrtha pool (stainless steel swimming pool manufacturer),
• the creation of a new fun space dedicated to learning to swim for the little ones,
• the demolition of the old cafeteria,
• improving ventilation : replacement of the air treatment with 4 units for optimal comfort,
• electrical modernization : complete replacement of systems and networks,
• creation of specific changing rooms for diving,
• new meeting room,
• the creation of new spaces well-being and personal : creation of a hammam on the ground floor accessible to the public,
• creation of changing rooms and dining areas for teams,
• the repair of the covered enclosure and the roof,
• changing all the exterior frames,
• the exterior covering : modernization of the facades for a contemporary architectural rendering and lighting of the entrance hall to reinforce the footprint of the equipment,
• the creation of an urban canopy in place of the outdoor solarium with security of the space and creation of a flower meadow in place of the old cafeteria.

Only the 15 m diving pit, which is in good condition, will be preserved, as well as certain technical equipment, such as the water treatment and filtration system.

Consequences for aquatic activities

The closure of the Nautilus will also have consequences on the organization of aquatic activities in metropolitan France. To ensure continuity of services, several measures will be put in place:

1. Relocation of children enrolled in swimming school
   The 400 children registered for the Nautilus will be welcomed at the Coliseum.
2. Reorganization of school and association slots at the Coliseum
   The water lines will be better optimized, opening to the public will be extended to Monday mornings (initially reserved for maintenance and upkeep), and the slots as well as the water lines will be shared between clubs and associations, in consultation with stakeholders.
3. Public reception
   Opening hours will be extended to compensate for the closure of the Nautilus, with opening from 8 a.m. on Monday morning.
4. Postponement of the annual technical closure
   An exceptional request will be sent to the ARS (Regional Health Agency) to postpone the technical closure initially planned for September 2025, to February 2026.
