A public inquiry is opened from Monday November 25, 2024 to Friday December 27, 2024with a view to the declaration of public utility relating to the revision in the municipalities of Saint-Mayeux and Caurel of the protection perimeters of drinking water catchment from Montplaisir.

Phytosanitary problem

The town hall of Saint-Mayeux exercises jurisdiction over drinking water in its municipality and must ensure the management of protective perimeters of this water catchment supplying the Lande Blanche treatment plant.

The Montplaisir catchment is a strategic work, since it is the only work operated by the municipality for the supply of drinking water.

However, this capture is affected by a phytosanitary problem.

Indeed, following the regular detection of metabolites (ESA metolachlor) in concentrations above the compliance threshold, the capture was classified as non-compliant by the ARS, before the declassification of this metabolite in 2022.

Stronger constraints

Despite the presence of protection perimeters defined in the prefectural decree of April 23, 2004, which allow the use of phytosanitary products in sensitive areas, these practices will not allow the union to sustainably regain water quality.

The community therefore chose to revise these protection perimeters by integrating stronger constraints: elimination of pesticides on all areas.

Average annual production is 43,301 m3i.e. an average daily flow of 123 m3/j. Part of the volume produced by the Montplaisir catchment is sold to the municipality of Caurel.

The municipality of Saint-Mayeux deliberated favorably for the revision of the protection perimeter of the Montplaisir catchment, on February 24, 2022.

This is located on the hill of Montplaisir, approximately 2.5 km south of the town of the commune.

The distribution unit has an interconnection with the Kerne Uhel reservoir (Syndicat Mixte de Kerne Uhel, SMKU). This contribution is used in particular to dilute water from the Montplaisir catchment in order to distribute compliant water.

In 2021, this dilution made it possible to supply 700 residents with drinking water.

The investigation file (paper) will be available for consultation on the days and hours that the Saint-Mayeux and Caurel town halls are open to the public.
