The socialist mayor of Anne Hidalgo announced, in an interview with Le Monde published Tuesday, that she would not seek a new term at the head of the capital in 2026.

“I will not run for a third term. It’s a decision I made a long time ago,” said Anne Hidalgo, adding that she wanted to see Senator Rémi Féraud succeed her.

“Out of respect for the Parisians, I wanted to announce it early enough and at a time that would allow us to prepare for a peaceful transmission,” declared the city councilor.

Anne Hidalgo assured that she would be “mayor until the last day”, adding that she wanted the last fifteen months of her mandate “to be used to complete what we have to do”.

The mayor of Paris declared that she would continue to be in politics after 2026, indicating however that she was “not at all a presidential candidate” in 2027.

Candidate of the Socialist Party for the 2022 presidential election, Anne Hidalgo received 1.75% of the votes in the first round of the election.
