A label that rewards the efforts of municipalities
Near Morsang-sur-Orge, the label rewards the work undertaken by the municipality in favor of animal welfare.
The municipality, which has a municipal councilor dedicated to the place of animals in the city, organized its first animal forum in the city in September and published a guide for facilitate cohabitation between animals and inhabitants.
Announcing on Facebook the “pleasure” and “honor” at receiving the trophy, the mayor of Morsang-sur-Orge, Marianne Duranton (also regional councilor) announced the upcoming creation of a dog park in Pablo Picasso Park.
In Saulx-les-Chartreux, this reward falls a few days before animal welfare fair scheduled for December 7, 2024. The month of December will also see the town of Montgeron publish a digital guide to animals.
How is this label awarded?
All municipalities can apply for the label. However, several criteria are taken into account in its allocation.
There is the promotion of the place given to companion animals, but also actions to raise awareness, provide information and promote this approach to the population.
Support for animal protection associations engaged in the municipal territory, the creation of public facilities and animal mediation actions, particularly among vulnerable citizens, are also evaluated.
Each labeled municipality is so for an indefinite period.
Three cities are progressing, Palaiseau is stagnating, Nozay is failing
This 2024 edition also made it possible to reward the municipalities of Crosne, Viry-Châtillon and Wissous which each progressed a level from one leg to two legs.
On the other hand, the town of Nozay did not manage to obtain the label, but received encouragement from the jury.
At the end of this edition, 15 municipalities in Essonne hold the “Animal Friendly City” label. Among them, only two cities display the three legs on their sign: Yerres and Mennecy.
Candidate to join these two municipalities, the town of Palaiseau ultimately remained on two legs after the deliberation of the jury.
The next call for applications is planned between the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 and will be followed by a new wave of certifications.
