The Channel Ports SPL announced the presence of the Venus in the harbor of Carteret (Manche). “After tests in Nort-sur-Erdre (-Atlantique) where it was built by the Merré shipyardthe stationary dredger with a butterfly sling Venus has been delivered on November 8, 2024 to the Channel Ports SPL. »

As reported by SPL, this stationary dredge is equipped with a Volvo D16 engine and a Warman dredging pump. “Equipped with a fluttering sling allowing a sweeping range of 28 m, it allows dredging up to 9 m deep. »

Work until April

The Channel Ports SPL dredging service team was able to finalize the dredger tests to start dredging the Barneville-Carteret wet basin on November 18.

And prefectural decree, dated July 21, 2023specifies that the dredging work in the Barneville-Carteret wet basin is planned from November 18 until end of April 2025.

Environmental monitoring

Flirting Venus will move into the flood basin to remove approximately 60 000 m3 sediment, which constitute a nuisance for users of the port. “The sediments will then be turned back at sea by means of this pipe network with a length of 2.5 kilometers to a discharge point located on the foreshoreoutside the harbour. »

This discharge point was chosen because it allows for very good dispersion of sediments due to currents, promotes the natural recharging of eroding sites by separating silt and sand and limits the impact on wildlife and the flora is not very present at this location on the foreshore.

Dredging operations will take place at falling tidefrom one hour before the open sea up to 5 hours after high water.

“And environmental monitoring is set up by an independent design office who will be responsible for control the impacts dredging on the Rozel foreshore as far as Port-Bail-sur-Mer and to ensure monitoring of fauna and flora. »
