53,000 euros is the median salary (gross) of executives in Hauts-de-France in 2024. This figure, revealed by the Executive Employment Agency (Apec) in November, reveals that executives in the region earn almost a thousand euros less than in other regions, where the median salary peaks at 54,000 euros.

But this is not the only data that this report gives us. By focusing on the remuneration of executives in each French region, it offers a glance at the economy of Hauts-de-France.

This lower median salary for executives in Hauts-de-France, Apec explains it by “proximity to Île-de-France [qui] can make it difficult to attract and retain candidates, as companies find it difficult to compete with the more attractive salaries offered by the many head offices located in this region.

Of the 270,000 executives who work in Hauts-de-France, the best paid are unsurprisingly those working in general management positions with a median salary of 80,000 euros.

The report also looks at remuneration in each sector of the regional economy. With a median salary of 62,000 euros, the pharmaceutical industry leads the way in the region, while communications and media executives enjoy the lowest median salary in any sector of activity combined (42,000 euros).

Despite a checkered record in Hauts-de-France, on a national scale, the situation of executives is more positive. 60% of executives benefited from an increase in 2024, including 74% of those under 30. However, these same executives under 30 years old “are the least satisfied with their remuneration” details the report.

In an increasingly uncertain economic context, executives feel they are losing purchasing power. Apec nevertheless recalls that “compared to non-executives, executives receive higher salaries and benefit from additional benefits such as a company car, bonuses and sometimes stock options, all advantages which improve their purchasing power .
