Burgundian farmers mobilized again this week in Côte-d'Or and Saône-et-Loire. After a first warning shot last Monday and a first fire of angerthe profession is mobilizing again against Mercosur and to denounce the ever more burdensome administrative constraints in their daily lives. Several actions are planned this week in Côte-d'Or and Saône-et-Loire.
A convoy of Burgundian tractors bound for Strasbourg
Around twenty tractors, with Côte-d'Oriens on board, responded to the call from Rural Coordination and were on their way to Strasbourg. and the European Parliament. The union plans to make itself heard and is scheduled to meet several deputies this Tuesday. In particular to reiterate its opposition au Mercosur but also for “denounce an environmental policy that is too restrictive or even almost decreasing” judge Thierry-James Facquer, the president of the union in Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
Several gatherings at the call of the FDSEA
The first is planned this evening (8 p.m.) in Montbard, in front of the French Biodiversity Office, with the deposit of manure and straw to protest against controls considered excessive, and “bordering on harassment” specifies Jacques de Loisy, the president of the union in Côte-d'Or, who relies on a senatorial report on the subject.
The other demonstration takes place early Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Dijon in front of the premises of the ASP, the Payment Security Authority, the authority responsible for distributing payments to farmers. An action to denounce the delays and numerous blockages.
In Saône et Loire also the FDSEA and the Young Farmers are calling for mobilization, with a rally this Tuesday in Louhans in front of the Public Treasury at 7 p.m. Tomorrow Wednesday, the meeting is in Charolles in front of the sub-prefecture (7 p.m.) and Thursday at 2 p.m. in front of the Regional Council branch then at 4:30 p.m. in front of the MSA in Mâcon and also at 6 p.m. this Thursday in front of the Blanzy OFB.
The Peasant Confederation mobilized but with its own agenda
On the side of the Confédération Paysanne, the union remains in solidarity with this anger but does not share the way of doing things of the other unions and will not join the actions carried out this week. “We are against Mercosur but for very different reasons from the other majority unions”explains Thomas Maurice, farmer in the back coast of Beaune and spokesperson for the Confédération paysanne in Côte-d'Or. “We denounce all free trade agreements because we believe that this globalized competition exposes and destroys farmers in all countries. We are for an agricultural model that offers quality agriculture. We also do not find ourselves in ever fewer standards. We can see very clearly, in a way, that we are calling for an end to free trade agreements, but even fewer standards. It is pure hypocrisy because even if some can be totally bureaucratic and above ground, these standards make it possible to protect farmers, the population and make it possible to adapt to the challenges of tomorrow, on living things, on the climate, on many things.” The Peasant Confederation met the prefect of Côte-d'Or last week to explain its concerns to him but for the moment prefers to keep its own agenda.
