At the beginning of October 2024, the police commander of Saumur (Maine-et-Loire) warned of the numerous thefts with damage committed in the Choudieu car park, located near the station: Do not leave anything visible in your vehicle that could attract the attention of malicious people.
Since then, the police have carried out surveillance, as revealed by our colleagues from Ouest-France, and arrested a young man in flagrante delicto on October 11. Information that we are able to confirm.
Ages 13 to 16
Police patrols were very tight in this location, since we knew that there was an increase in thefts,
explains Hervé Scifo. This led to the arrest of a young person in flagrante delicto on October 11.
While cycling, the young man had a hammer and gloves in his bag to protect himself from broken glass.
Placed in police custody, the young man admitted the facts. The police identified the co-perpetrators of the thefts. In total, six young people from Saumur, born between 2008 and 2011, were interviewed. They also admitted the facts. Most were already known to the police for similar acts. Five of them will soon be summoned before the children's judge. The sixth was given a summons to appear before the prosecutor.
