An atypical journey
Rosa Bursztein is an artist who knew how to reinvent herself. After a promising start in the theater, notably thanks to prestigious collaborations like John Malkovich, his career took an unexpected turn. After several difficult years, she found her calling in stand-up. This radical change was the result of a period of self-questioning, where the desire to create something personal and quick to play pushed her to take this path. “Stand-up is my diary,” she says. This moment of doubt led her to create a show in 2018 at the Avignon Festival, an emblematic place for artists seeking visibility. This is where everything really began for her in this new field.
Split : the love quest continues
In SplitRosa Bursztein continues what we could call “season 2” of her love quest. After tackling sentimental wandering in her previous show, she seems to have found a new perspective, with a touch of lightness but also a touch of reflection on modern life. This show, full of humor, addresses deep themes such as family heritage, identity, and the place of women in society. Rosa continues to reveal herself on stage, not only with sometimes daring jokes but also by taking a critical look at feminism and its personal contradictions.
In Splitthe artist swapped her pajamas for a long floral dress. “I grew up,” she explains with a smile, showing that, even if humor is central, its evolution is palpable. The dress, more than a simple costume, symbolizes her own transformation.
Humor for reflection
What sets Rosa Bursztein apart is her ability to combine humor and reflection on sometimes serious subjects. Sex, which often comes up in his sketches, is only a pretext to address deeper issues, such as feminism, anti-Semitism or even consumer society. “Laughing together” is its objective: to relieve everyone of their guilt and to come together around the same question: how to live in a world that often overtakes us? Thanks to her kindness and energy, she manages to approach these subjects with a touch of irony which awakens consciences without ever sinking into moralism.
The Guys I Want Ken: the podcast turned book
Rosa Bursztein is not limited to the stage. She started a podcast, The Guys I Want Kenwhere she explores seduction, intimacy and human relationships. After interviewing many men, this podcast evolved to also include women and family members, creating a deep and heartfelt dialogue. “It’s a bit like stand-up, but more intimate,” she explains. This podcast is now also a book, where Rosa's personal reflections find a new form of expression.
