The handball players of Reunion, proud of the trophy acquired from the 28th edition of the CCCOI. |
The 28th edition of the Indian Ocean Champion Clubs' Cup (CCCOI) 2024, which ended Friday, very late in the evening, at the Mahamasina Sports Palace, did not smile on the Malagasy clubs. The two titles at stake, in the women's and men's categories, fell into the hands of Reunion, which achieved a nice double.
Before the two finals, the suspense no longer existed because, whether in the women's or men's category, they were 100% Reunionese. For the ladies, the players from Case Cressonnière beat the handball players from HBF de Saint-Denis with a score of 31-14.
It was a one-sided final because, from the start until the final whistle, the girls from the Case Cressonnière club were on display and fully mastered their final.
In the men's category, the two Reunion clubs had difficulty deciding between themselves.
Reunionese superiority
But, in a final twist of fate and luckier than their opponents, the handball players of Saint-Pierre HBC beat the players of Lasours HB by a thread and at the last minute with a score of 31-30. Among the nurseries of the French national handball team, the handball players from Reunion, advantaged by their size and more technical compared to other players from the Indian Ocean islands, showed their superiority during the ten days of competition .
The MY-Sah Madagascar club, in the women's category, finished fifth, behind HC Select 976 from Mayotte who finished third and AJH Tsimkoura from Mayotte, fourth. The THBC club, representing the Big Island, finished last, seventh. The AS Saint-Michel players finished in fifth place in the men's category.
“The handball tournament counting for the Indian Ocean Champion Clubs' Cup, or CCCOI, played in Madagascar, showed the reality of Malagasy handball. The Comoros and Mayotte outclassed us. If no radical measures are taken immediately, I think that Malagasy handball will disappear,” confides Maxime Adrien Fanomezantsoa, a supporter disgusted by the decline of Malagasy handball.
The next edition will be held in Mauritius in November 2025.
