In total, 119 deaths (men and women combined) were recorded last year by police services and gendarmerie units, compared to 145 the previous year, or 26 fewer victims, according to the national study on violent deaths. within a couple. Either “on average, one “death recorded every three days”.
As in previous years, women are the main victims, representing 81% of the total victims: 96 women died in 2023 compared to 118 in 2022 (i.e. 22 fewer victims and a drop of 19%).
The latest official report, which was published by the Interministerial Mission for the Protection of Women (Miprof) on November 19, reported 93 marital feminicides initially recorded.
The typical profile of the author remains “mainly male, most often in couples, of French nationality, aged 30 to 59 and not or no longer engaged in professional activity”specifies the Ministry of the Interior. The majority of the victims are women, aged 30 to 49.
Still according to this study, the refusal of separation and the argument within the couple “remain the main motives for taking action”.
