In September 2023, Switzerland received a visit from an evaluation team from Greco, a body of the Council of Europe (CoE) whose objective is to improve the capacity of the 48 member states to fight corruption. His visit to Switzerland, organized as part of the fifth evaluation cycle, focused on a particularly important function in the Swiss state organization: that of federal councilor (CF).
Switzerland, Greco specifies from the outset, is rather one of the model students. It obtained good results regarding the implementation of the first four evaluation cycles – which dissected various aspects of the Swiss system, particularly its parliamentarians. And it ranks highest in the OECD on trust in government. In 2020, for the first time in its history, the Swiss supreme executive also adopted a “Federal Council strategy against corruption”, welcomes Greco. However, room for improvement exists.
